“Find Your Civil War Ancestors” Is Now Online

Welcome to everyone who found us after the website went “live” yesterday. Most of you have probably found the online exhibit “Find Your Civil War Ancestors” already, but since my last post mentioned that it was “coming soon” I thought I should announce that it is now available.

Although this exhibit was mainly created for North Carolina Archives Week, we hope to expand on it in the future. I know that I’ll be adding to the Massey and Brown section, at the very least, and the other members of the committee may expand on their sections as they have time or opportunity. There is also the possibility that the project will be expanded to include other departments within the Department of Cultural Resources sometime next year.

But right now we have six sections available and arranged by the person who wrote them:

  1. A Many Faceted Gemstone: Our North Carolina Union Civil War Ancestors
  2. A Many Faceted Gemstone: Our North Carolina Confederate Civil War Ancestors
  3. The Origin of the Bell Battery

  1. Wright Stephen Batchelor, A Soldier of Two Sides

  1. Massey and Brown; Or, How Even Non-History Types Can Research Their Civil War Relatives

  1. Edward Featherston Small: Beaufort County Soldier
  2. Disability Certificate Report for Edward F. Small

  1. Private Robert Williams: Company F, 14th Regiment, North Carolina Troops, CSA

  1. George Washington Brown: The Ancestor Who Did Not Want To Be Found
